Textbook on family medicine

This is a very impressive and now classic book on family medicine by professor Robert E Rakel from the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
The book has 131, all American, contributors from the field of family medicine, but also other fields, but always matched with a family physician to ensure the relevance to family medicine. It is divided into five parts with 67 chapters: Principles of family medicine, Family medicine in the community, Communication, Practice and Management.
The chapters are extensive both in detail and scope with relevant issues, such as bioterrorism. Evidence based medicine is discussed as well as practice based research, but we missed a chapter on persons with intellectual disability or mental retardation in family medicine. This is because more and more persons are now living in the community and the family physician will be the primary care taker with very few medical schools having this subject in their curriculum. Maybe a chapter on the future of family medicine should be prepared for the next edition.
We have looked at many chapters and found useful information in a clear and straightforward language. Also useful information on pediatric and adolescent issues for the family physician. The index was also helpful and extensive.
This is an important book that should be found at the office or library of every family physician...

The book is a timely title, especially when you consider the entitlement mentality and blame others for our problems attiude so prevalent in society.

James MacDonald takes 5 different negative attitudes and shows how we should replace those with a better attitude. Here are the book's contents:

1. Replace a Complaining Attitude

2. With a Thankful Attitude

3. Replace a Covetous Attitude

4. With an Attitude of Contentment

5. Replace a Critical Attitude

Pastor James MacDonald presents yet another outstanding book on a very neglected topic in today's Christianity. His premise is that our bad attitudes keep us away from the victorious Spirit-filled life that God wants us to live.
Using the scandalous Old Testament story of God refusing to allow the Israelites to enter the promised land, Pastor MacDonald pulls principles and applications right out of the text to identify my attitudes that INFURIATE the Lord (grumbling, complaining, etc.) and gives me practical ways to embrace attitudes that PLEASE Him (thankfulness, contentedness, etc.).
People who have read his best-selling debut, I Really Want To Change - So Help Me God, will be familiar with his very unique writing style. Think A.W. Tozer meets ESPN SportsCenter.
So get practical, get serious and get changing with this great book.

Life Changing Study that will leave you wanting more!

This study has had an enormous affect on the ladies in my study, so much so that they want to do it a 2nd time! AND they want their husbands to see it too! You do not need the chapter book if you are going through the DVD's. The workbook is all you really need. The chapter book is basically the DVD's, word for word. Some ladies do like to have the chapter book on hand because they dont' have access to the DVD's on a regular basis. The DVD sessions are roughly 47 to 63 minutes long. The workbook lays out a plan of facilitating each session w/ discussion time in both large and small groups. Workbook consists of 5 days of homework each week for 11 weeks. James MacDonald is easy to listen to and adds humor to some challenging topics. Be ready to change!

Get a REAL atlas

If you have the Tortora book, then you do not need this atlas. I would highly, highly recommend that you do not waste money on this atlas. Spend a few more dollars and get a copy of the Netter's atlas for students. Trying to use this atlas in my human anatomy lab/class (intro) has been nothing but annoying. Many important landmarks are overlooked and I have repeatedly had to refer to Netter's to figure out where landmarks are. Avoid this atlas and save your money and frustration.

Know your study situation

This photographic atlas is OK for those who don't have an intensive anatomy course, such as those that utilize actual human cadavers. It would be an insult to those who donated their bodies for such an endeavor to possess this book. In that case, it would do you best to get an actual atlas that was dedicated to human-only study. If, however, you are interested in veterinary studies, then this might suit you well. I used this book for a non-human-cadaver anatomy course and it served me well. When I moved into cadaver study, my textbooks reflected such a transition.

The takeaway: buy this book if you are not in a cadaver lab or if you are in veterinary studies. DO NOT buy this book if you are in a human cadaver lab.

A Must for any Pre-med and Med student

I'm a pre-med student, and when I first heard about this book from my professor, I was a bit skeptical that it would help me or anyone that wasn't already in med school. But when I got it, it was clear and easy to follow. The pictures weren't some badly drawn figurines, or a mess of grey, unidentifiable body parts, they were real photographs of the skeleton which were, thank goodness!, easy on the eyes. I might not be in med school yet, but I'm making sure I have this book with me. As a revision and reference book, this one is the greatest!

About the Author
Hossein Bidgoli, Ph.D., is professor of Management Information Systems at California State University. Dr. Bidgoli helped set up the first PC Lab in the United States and served as its first director. He is the author of 45 textbooks, 27 manuals and more than five dozen technical articles and papers on various aspects of computer applications, information systems and network security, e-commerce and decision support systems published and presented throughout the world. Dr. Bidgoli also serves as the editor-in-chief of THE HANDBOOK OF TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT, THE INTERNET ENCYCLOPEDIA, THE HANDBOOK OF INFORMATION SECURITY, THE HANDBOOK OF COMPUTER NETWORKS, and THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS. This is one of the best textbooks that I've used

This is one of the best textbooks that I've used. The author not only shows an incredible knowledge of the subject but also shows an understanding of students and their preferences. Most students don't like their textbooks for different reasons but usually its because they're hard to understand because of a lack of explanations and because the assigned reading chapters are overwhelmingly long. But this book provides great explanations with examples throughout as well as chapters that are short, sweet, and to the point. The book is very well organized and put together and the online support proved extremely helpful.
I would absolutely recommend this text. I am very pleased with this book and what I have learned from it.

Great book, even better online features.

This textbook is the best I have seen for MIS. Chapters are well written so that minimal reading is required to learn a great amount of information. Definitions are explained clearly and completely, and can be understood by anyone remotely familiar with technology.

Questions at the end of chapters combined with online practice questions are extremely useful study tools that enabled good grades in my course. Making flashcards and studying specific topics was easy with the online study bits feature.

With the well explained book and fantastic online features, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone learning MIS.

Wonderful!!

This book has been such an encouragement! If you love your role as being a wife and stay at home mom than you should read this book. Or if you have doubts if you are doing the right thing by staying home, this book is for you. It is so beautifully put together. YOu will be so blessed by this book. I loved it so much I bought one to give to my best friend. I want to keep mine for my daughters to read.

Queenly Thoughts

Queen of the home was a quick, easy, and encouraging read. I enjoyed the chapter topics and felt they dealt with things every mom needs to be reminded about. The compilation of authors, poets and writers was a great combination. I also enjoyed the illustrations between each chapter section. Beautiful art! This book would make a great gift for baby showers, wedding showers or even just for a friend in general.
What I enjoyed most about this book was the scripture. I enjoy hearing mans opinions about Godly Womanhood - but how much more precious to read them from the Word of God! Overall, I wasn't blown away by the quips, poems, and short essays - but they were great reminders. There was a clear and definite conservative point of view, which I fear excludes women who are at this time "forced" to be outside of their homes, etc. Otherwise, good book. :)
