Daniel Boorstin writes like a librarian

Daniel Boorstin writes like a librarian. He has a clarity of vision about the claims of those around him and in the materials that claim a place in the archives and stacks of the crucial institutions he knew so well. And he called it like he saw it. Journalism, in his view, was a power in the ongoing cultural life of the United States that was part truth, part fiction. It was predictable in its approaches, limited in its ability to find and report facts, and was subject to the whims of political, economic and social power. It was a messenger of good in a landscape of evil. And its life was hard. This is a must-read for anyone who loves the press. It's must-reading also for press-haters.
